Let this Mind Be in You

Written by Karen Gibbs

Our Lord Jesus Christ was superior to all and yet he had an attitude of service. In Philippians 2 we read that we need to strive to know Him and develop His attitude of service in our own lives (v5) Let this mind be in you….
Our Lord was superior to all …
1. He was born of a virgin
2. He spoke like God
3. His Conduct was like God
4. He was approved by God
Acts 2:22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:
And yet he had the attitude of service…
1. No grasping spirit,
verse 7, “But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men”
2. No self-seeking
3. He lived to serve
4. He identified with those He came to save,
verse 8 “And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross”.
5. He did not please Himself.
Romans 15:2,3 “Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification. For even Christ pleased not himself”
Our Lord Jesus Christ had the humble spirit of a servant, serving both God and men. In John 13:1-15 we read that not only did our Lord have the attitude of service BUT he practised it! What a wonderful example for us all. It’s not about waiting to be served by others but, – start being a servant. Mark 10: 41-45 shows that our Lord expects us to follow His example and minister to others. This can be done in so many practical ways in our daily lives. The elderly or infirm often need help. Mothers with young children, the list is endless. We all need to look around and see where we can be of service within our own community. After all, we must not elevate our own selves, it is not about who WE are but, -seeing Christ is our master and we are all brethren Matthew 23:8-10

A truly wonderful quote to remember concerning the work of our Lord in the future is Luke 12:37 “Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them” Let this mind be in you ….
